Roberto “Bobby” Alvarez Jr. – Founding President of TOYM Foundation Inc.

Roberto “Bobby” Alvarez Jr. has served as the National Chairman during the 1989 and 1990 Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) Search. It is an annual program dedicated to identifying and recognizing role models for Filipinos, especially the youth. Through this, Bobby saw opportunities to strengthen the consistency and continuity of the TOYM Search, leading him to establish the TOYM Foundation, where he became the Founding President from 1991 to 1992.

One of the key changes implemented during Bobby’s term as TOYM Foundation President was the creation of the Policy Manual. This manual provides consistency on how the awards were given for each category and brought out the potential of the award to recognize every individual that met the standards to receive the award, not limiting to only one individual per category. Simultaneously, this also addressed the previous requirement that a winner must be declared per category even if they do not meet the ideals to receive such an award. With this change, the awards evolved from being known as the “Ten Outstanding Young Men” to “The Outstanding Young Men”.

Another significant change implemented with the establishment of the Foundation was that the critical task of selecting the board of judges was now made by the Board of the TOYM Foundation. This ensured that the awards process was overseen by individuals who were fully aligned with the TOYM’s values and goals, further strengthening the integrity of the program.

At the end of his term as President in 1992, Bobby was honored with a TOYM special award in recognition of his efforts in leading the TOYM Foundation and ensuring the program’s growth and continuity.
