Championing Eco-Governance: Roberto “Bobby” Alvarez Jr. receives Award at Normandy Chair for Peace and Good Stories Ceremony

At the Normandy Chair for Peace and Good Stories ceremony, Roberto “Bobby” Alvarez Jr. was recognized for his dedication to protecting the environment. He received the Eco-Governance award for his effective work in promoting sustainable practices. Bobby’s efforts in eco-governance reflect his passion for conservation and his positive impact on local communities and ecosystems. For example, in his housing projects, he uses technology that reduces the amount of materials needed, leading to a smaller carbon footprint overall.

The event was hosted by the Normandy Chair for Peace and Good Stories Movement at the Ramon Magsaysay Center in Manila in April 2023. In a time when the world faces many environmental challenges, Bobby’s award emphasizes the need for proactive measures and creative solutions. His hard work and leadership in eco-governance inspire others and set a high standard for environmental activism.

His contributions go beyond just technology; he has also helped communities recover from natural disasters. The Tagbanwa residents of Sitio Iratag, Purok Pagbabago, Barangay Irawan in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, were happy to start anew after Typhoon Odette when Bobby, as president of the RCMC Foundation, and DOE Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi handed over Rotary Homes to typhoon victims and indigenous people. These homes were built to be more resistant to future typhoons, using local materials in their construction.
